About the Library

The Monroe Library exists to support research and enrich curricular instruction, promote information literacy and encourage students to become lifelong learners, critical thinkers
and ethical decision makers.

Library Practice Class

If you would like to work in the library in a for-credit class, ask your counselor.

Volunteers

Students or parents may volunteer to work in the library before school, during nutrition, during lunch, or after school. A volunteer chooses the day(s) and time slot(s) desired (with librarian approval) and makes a commitment to work their designated time slot for the entire semester.

Library Policies

Behavior
  • Please remember there is no eating or drinking or chewing gum in the library. This means:
    • No snacks, candy or gum.
    • No cafeteria food or food from outside school (including home).
    • No cafeteria beverages or beverages from outside school (including home). Water is okay.

  • Backpacks must be off the tables (use an adjacent chair or floor).
  • If you create a disturbance, you will be asked to leave. Depending on the offense, further disciplinary action may be taken.

  • Damaging or stealing library materials (or attempting to damage or steal) is a serious offense. Parents and/or deans may be notified.

Thank you for your kind support of keeping our library a safe and welcoming place to read, study, quietly talk or meet with our clubs!

Borrowing Materials
  • Your ID card is your library card. You must be in good standing with the library to borrow.
  • Students may check out books for two weeks.
  • Students may renew books for an additional two weeks.
  • Students may borrow a maximum of 3 books at a time.
  • Faculty may check out as many books as needed (within reason).
Fines
  • The overdue fine is 10 cents per book per day (not including weekends).
  • Fines due may not exceed the cost of the book or $5.
  • All fines must be paid before a student may borrow additional books.
  • If a student loses or damages a book, they are responsible for the replacement cost of the book plus a processing fee. Refunds given within 30 days provided patron has a receipt.
  • Faculty do not accrue overdue fines. If faculty lose items, it is helpful if they pay for replacements.
Copiers/Printers
  • Students should ask for assistance with printers and copiers to avoid unnecessary charges.
  • Copies are 25 cents each for BW or color. If you cannot pay, the fee will be placed on your library record as a fine that you can pay later.
  • Only documents needed for school assignments may be printed.
  • Please follow copyright laws when using the printer or the copier.
